The Libyan Foreign Ministry has urged the Italian authorities to halt fishing association of Sicily not to cooperate with illegitimate bodies in eastern Libya.

The Foreign Ministry said Thursday in a letter to Italian embassy in Tripoli that the Military Investment Authority in eastern Libya is an illegitimate body and dealing with it is a violation of international law.

“The deal was for 10.000 euros to go to the Military Investment Authority. It is a funding for illegitimate bodies.” The Foreign Ministry.

An Italian newspaper said earlier that the Military Investment Authority of Khalifa Haftar had  the National Union of Fishing Institution in Italy to grant them permits to fish in Libyan water. The contract was signed in last March for five coming years worth 10.000 euros a month.

The newspaper said the contract was put in effect last July as Italian fishing boats headed from Sicily to Libyan waters.
