The mayor of Praia spoke on the sidelines of a visit to the homeless city of Praia, which had as a special guest the President of the Republic, Jorge Carlos Fonseca.
The ‘Angels of the Night’ project was created in 2017 by the local authority. “The house is almost completed, we are making the final arrangements and soon we will begin to remove people from the street, especially at night and in the rainy season,” said Oscar Santos, revealing that he has the partnership of the Family Ministry.
Most of the capital’s homeless are foreigners, from other islands and with alcohol problems, according to Praia’s mayor.
“There is no defined profile,” said Oscar Santos, noting that according to the latest data are 22 the “permanent and temporary” homeless in Praia City.
During the visit, Óscar Santos and Jorge Carlos Fonseca were on the Plateau, Fazenda, Avenida Cidade de Lisboa and Sucupira.
The Angels of the Night project has a team of four people, including a nurse, a psychologist, a home educator and a coordinator.
