A talented boxer has been jailed for drink driving on a busy Leicester road while he was banned from being behind the wheel.

Sura Koroma was seen by patrolling police swerving between lanes and driving at excessive speeds in Uppingham Road.

The 31-year-old also used the bus lane to undertake traffic before he stopped for the police.

Officers said Koroma ‘appeared as extremely intoxicated’ and failed a breath test.

The sample he blew showed 115 micrograms (mcg) of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The limit is 35mcg.

Koroma appeared at Leicester Magistrates Court this week when he admitted drink driving, driving while disqualified and driving with no insurance.

Sally Bedford, prosecuting, said the offences happened at around 11.30am on December 30, 2017.

She said Koroma should have appeared in court in February last year but did not do so.

He had actually left the country and gone to Sierra Leone only returning to Leicester three weeks ago
