8 Kidnapped Polish sailors ‘freed in Nigeria

Pomerenia_Ship.jpgAuthorities in Poland have confirmed that eight of its sailors who had been kidnapped in October in Nigeria have been freed and are in safe hands.

Three other crew members of the Pomerenia Sky – two Filipinos and a Ukrainian were also reportedly freed.

The crews of the German-owned vessel were kidnapped by pirates in motorboats when the ship was about 100km (62 miles) off Nigeria, en route from Angola.

According to the Polish government, this marks fifth case of kidnapping of Polish sailors in the Gulf of Guinea since 2013
